Drinking water for health-we've all heard about this time and again. In fact, you would constantly hear people advise drinking of eight glasses of water a day. And even though most people don't actually count the glasses of water they drink, many are aware of the importance of water to one's health and well being.

Water is an important factor that keeps us healthy and energized. Did you know that two-thirds of a person's body consists of water? The blood is 80 percent water, the human brain is 95 percent, and the lungs 90 percent. Water plays an important role in many mechanisms in the human body. Water to body is like motor gas to a car. It keeps bodily functions running smoothly.

Water is known to be effective in eliminating toxins from the body. In fact, it is considered by many as the best detoxification agent. Moreover, it serves as a lubricant. It forms the base for saliva. It forms the fluids that go around the joints. It also regulates the body temperature, and the body's metabolism. When a body becomes dehydrated, a person may experience at the very least the following conditions: excessive thirst, fatigue, headache, dry mouth, muscle weakness, irritability, dizziness, lightheadedness, constipation and so many more.

For these reasons, it is essential that you drink sufficient water each day. However, the fact that water has become polluted over the years can cause many people to worry and to be alarmed. People may be consuming the right amount of water per day, but if this water is acidic and polluted, it can cause more damage than good.

Acid wastes generated from food, drinks, stress, and environmental pollutants are dumped into the bloodstream and lymph. These are transported to the liver and kidneys for detoxification. Since the pH level of internal fluids affects the body's living cells, over-acidification can creating a negative environment that can have adverse effects to cellular functions.

This is where the role of alkaline drinking water comes in. Hydrating the body optimally requires the intake of water that is alkaline and mineral rich. Alkaline drinking water helps the body in neutralizing acids and removing toxins. It also serves as a conductor of electrochemical activity from one cell to another.

Water should have a pH level of between 8 and 9 to be alkaline. Acid water that has less than pH level of 7, on the other hand, is a breeding ground for microorganisms, bacteria, and viruses. Ideally, we should be able to consume 2.5 to 4 liters of alkalizing water daily.

Generally, alkaline water is made using three methods such as using a distiller, using a water ionizer, and adding alkaline ingredients to water. The use of a distiller kills and removes almost every form of bacteria, virus, heavy metal, acid toxin, and organic and inorganic contaminant. This process involves turning of water into steam and then condensing it back to water. It is during this process that the mentioned impurities are killed and eradicated.

The process of ionization, meanwhile, requires water to be electrically enhanced by running it over positive and negative electrodes to separate water into alkaline and acidic. The alkaline water is then used for drinking while the acidic water is used outside the body such as for taking a bath, and so on. Lastly, adding alkaline ingredients to the water can turn it into alkaline water. Such ingredients include lemon and pH drops, among many others.

Water is so vital to our health that it is only right that we ensure its excellent quality before we drink it up. Drink only alkaline water that is beneficial for one's overall health and well being.
